IN LATE 2007
or early 2008 Virgin Galactic, part of the Virgin group of companies, owned by Sir Richard Branson, will launch the world’s first commercial spaceline, with regular flights carrying fare-paying passengers into space.
The first Irishman to venture into space on board Virgin’s first ship, VSS Enterprise, will be Tom Higgins, boss of Realm Communications Ltd., which runs the Irish Psychics Live telephone service. Tom was first to register for the flight and signed a contract in February 2005 with Virgin Galactic to become Ireland’s first astronaut and space tourist.
VSS Enterprise will travel almost 90 miles into space, more than one third the distance to the International Space Station, and will pull up to 6gs (six times the force of gravity) during ascent and re-entry. We hope to televise the flight live on this website.
During the next two years we will continually update this site with developments and information on all aspects of the upcoming space adventure. We welcome your comments and input so please feel free to contact us.
